1 Aug 2005 - Keeping in Touch - ROE GREEN WALLED GARDEN

ROE GREEN WALLED GARDEN AWARDED A CIVIC TRUST GREEN PENNANT

The Green Pennant Award recognises and rewards high quality green spaces in England and Wales that are managed by voluntary groups. Each green space must be welcoming, healthy, safe and secure, well maintained, and clean. It must show environmental sustainability, biodiversity, heritage interest, and community involvement.

We are celebrating our success, as one of only seven green spaces in Greater London to be awarded the Pennant, and one of only forty-two in the whole of England and Wales.

Everyone in the Garden has worked very hard to achieve this award recognised by the Government. Green spaces have a profound effect on peoples well-being as they provide places to relax and play, and help to protect our wildlife and the environment. We are part of the Cleaner, Safer, Greener Communities campaign, and proud to be the volunteer part of Brent Parks, and to have achieved this award. Do come and enjoy this peaceful green space.

The judge, in his report, remarked:
?When Mike Batt wrote the following in the late 60?s
Underground, overground wombling free
The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we
Making use of things we find
Things that everyday folk leave behind.

Little did he know that a rival organisation would be set up in North London approximately 20 years later.?
