31 Jul 2005 - ROE GREEN WALLED GARDEN, KINGSBURY, JOINS LIST OF AWARD WINNING COMMUNITY GREEN SPACES.

Roe Green Walled Garden is celebrating after being included in the list of 2005 Green Pennant Award winners - the standard mark for community-managed green spaces in England and Wales.

42 community green spaces - including 7 in the Greater London area - have been rewarded with a Green Pennant, up from 27 last year. This award, now in its third year, is exclusively for green spaces managed by voluntary and community groups. The Green Flag Award scheme, which has been running since 1997, is the national standard for parks and green spaces managed by the Civic Trust, and the Green Pennant Award is an additional scheme under this umbrella.

Roe Green Walled Garden is a Victorian garden built in the late 1800's as a country residence for the Duchess of Sutherland, but now owned by the London Borough of Brent and managed by the volunteers of Barn Hill Conservation Group. The site boasts many different features, having both formal and wildlife areas - with attractions for both children and adults alike.
