BARN HILL CONSERVATION GROUP

Fryent Country Park is a green oasis in the London Borough of Brent and has over 100 hectares of meadows, woods, hedgerows and ponds. There are over 800 species of wildlife. This includes 80 recorded birds, 21 butterflies and over 500 wild flowers. The haymeadows have achieved the Soil Association Organic Standard. The Park is always open for people to enjoy the wonderful variety of wildlife. It is a great place for walks and picnics plus fun and games for the children.

Barn Hill Conservation Group was formed in 1984 to help to conserve Fryent Country Park. The Group holds regular projects each week throughout the year. Training is given and all tools are supplied, together with free tea and coffee. News appears in our 'Keeping in Touch' newsletter.

Wildlife projects in Fryent Country Park include surveys of the hay meadows, butterflies, frogs and birds. There is also a ramble on Wednesdays and childrens' activities: in addition to the Natural Magic[ activities organised by the Friends of Fryent Country Park, educational activities can be organised on weekdays with Brent School Without Walls.

At Roe Green Walled Garden there are a range of educational exhibits and occasional visits by school groups can be arranged. Activities for children also take place on some of the Open Days in our programme. For the third year running our garden has received the accolade of the Green Pennant, awarded by the Civic Trust for high quality green spaces that are managed by voluntary and community groups. Roe Green Walled Garden is open each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between 10am and 2pm. Volunteers can enjoy community gardening, help with the tree nursery or woodwork.
